Fonterutoli

Located close to the Fonterutoli hamlet 5 kilometers south of Castellina in Chianti, it represents together with Siepi the historic production core of the company.
The vineyards are located at a height of between 420-550 meters and cover a surface of 21 hectares cultivated with Sangiovese and in part with Merlot, Malvasia Nera, and Colorino. The land is characterized by Alberese and Galestro soil with medium limestone mix, very rich in structure and with poor water retention capability. The vineyards have an industrial footprint of between 5800 to 7500 plants per hectare with the vines trained in the Guyot and spur-trained cordon systems. The particular soil and micro climate characteristics of the area permit the production of elegant wines with extraordinary components of bouquet and complexity.

Siepi

Located in the county of Castellina in Chianty on the side facing the Val d'Elsa, at a height of between 250 to 330 meters with South/South-West exposure, it has an overall surface of 14 hectares, cultivated with Sangiovese and Merlot, and a small part with Cabernet Sauvignon, with density of 4200/6700 plants per hectare. The soil is characterized by a medium mix texture, with a tendency to be clay-rich with the presence of marly limestone and calciferous sandstone. The exceptional location, the very special micro climate, and the considerable temperature excursions between day and night, make this micro-area unique in terms of its quality.
In a document stored in the family archive at Fonterutoli, Siepi was already listed among the properties of Madonna Smeralda Mazzei in 1435; described as a plot of land contiguous to the house, provided with an olive grove, vineyard, and oak grove...", hence this is certainly one of the oldest vineyards in Italy.

Le Ripe

Located about 2 kilometers as the crow flies from Fonterutoli in the county of Radda in Chienti, this part of the property is dominated by an old Romanesque Abbey from the X century (called "Badiola"), from which one of the wines produced here owes its name.
The soil located at a height of between 470 to 570 meters is characterized by a medium mix limestone structure very rich in texture. The vineyards, 12 hectares of Sangiovese and Merlot with Southern exposure, were planted at a high density of between 5800 and 7400 plants/hectare with Guyot stocks for Sangiovese and pruned spur stocks for Merlot.
The zone presents reletively cool temperatures, both for the height and the specific micro climate, bestowing the grapes produced here with particular bouquet characteristics.

Belvedere

Located 3 kilometers as the crow flies from Fonterutoli, it has an overall area of 25 hectares, planted with Sangiovese and Colorino at a height of between 290 to 400 meters above sea level.
The soil of medium limestone mix is very rich in structure, and is characterized by Albarese formations consisting of white marly limestone. The polyclonal vineyards are realized with plant density of between 5,800 to 7,400 plants per hectare with simple pruned spur and bilateral pruned spur stocks. As a result of the soil and climate characteristics, the area is eminently suitable for the production of grapes yielding wines distinguished for their concentration and color.
The area of Belvedere contains the Vicoregio vineyard, located at Quercegrossa at a height of 300 m above sea level. Parceling of 14 hectares planted with Sangiovese, the stocks are free standing pruned spur, while the planting density is 6,600 plants per hectare.
The medium mix soil is rich in structure characterized by Albarese formations consisting of white marly limestone.

Caggio

This macro-area purchased in 2006 is adjacent to Fonterutoli and located at a height of 270 to 370 meters above sea level; it extends over an area of about 45 hectares presenting vineyards planted with Sangiovese, Malvasia Nera, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The soil presents a texture with a tendency to clay with plenty of structure, while the vineyards are characterized in part by the density of planting, which ranges from 3,700 plants/ha on pruned spur stocks to 6,300 plants/ha for new plantings.
As a result of the clay soil and the lower height, the area range is suited for the production of wines with richer structure and tannins.
