Castello di Fonterutoli throws open its doors to welcome visitors and wine lovers
One of Tuscany’s most iconic wineries, in the heart of the Chianti Classico region
Nestled in a classic swathe of Tuscan landscape, just outside the town of Castellina in Chianti, Castello di Fonterutoli is within easy reach of many of the region's top sights. Siena is just a quarter of an hour’s drive away, Florence lies within 45 minutes, while Volterra, San Gimignano and Pienza are all close at hand.
Several activities are on offer here, starting with wine tastings in the spectacular three-level cellar, whose ‘Barricaia’ or barrique room hosts over 3,000 oak barrels.
Designed by Agnese Mazzei, the cellar adheres to the Toscana Wine Architecture project, a group of 14 striking contemporary wineries conceived by some of the world’s leading architects.
